Communities Get Started for Safe SchoolsCommunities are a crucial part in the overall safety of any school. The school environment is not only contained within the hallways of the school building. The school environment is carried over into after school activities, routes to and from school as well as on school related transportation.
Communities can get involved in many ways. During the times that students are walking to and from school different community members can keep an eye out for mischievous behaviors. Behaviors that would not be acceptable on school property such as handling of weapons or bullying should be reported to proper authorities such as a teacher or principal of the school.
Often times a school district will have a community liaison. This person would be the one to contact in case acts are witnessed by a child. Other things that may be witnessed are child abuse as well as neglect. Any of these things can be detrimental to a child and their learning abilities and environments.
If the school district is tight on funds and can not pay for proper training methods for teachers and students to keep the school environment safe the community can help. Help does not only have to be in the form of monetary donations but more creative ways to raise money as well. Something like a bake sale or even a dance in which people can donate money at the door. A local disc jockey could offers free services and just hold the dance at the schools gym.
It takes more than just one person to educate a child. It takes a whole community to keep a child feeling safe and able to learn. Support from all aspects of the community leaves a child feeling like everyone is behind them looking out for their well being therefore feeling safe and more likely to succeed.
